It’s 2020, and most of our Independence Day celebrations and fireworks are canceled. We’ve gone through last year’s events listing on this page and deleted everything that isn’t happening — which didn’t leave us with much, especially inside the Perimeter. You can find a list of official fireworks cancellations at the bottom of the page.
This list is still evolving, so please check back!
Click through each link (in the event title) for details. Some events these days are limited capacity and require advance registration.
But remember, just because something is happening doesn’t mean you have to go. Your mom wants us to tell you to be safe, weigh your risks, and make good choices.
If you know of something that’s happening over the July 4th holiday weekend, please email us at editor@atlantaonthecheap.com and let us know. We’re especially interested in fireworks displays that families can watch from their cars.
You can also scroll down to the bottom of the page for a day-by-day calendar of upcoming 2020 July 4th holiday weekend events.

Picnic in The Yard at Ponce City Market
Walking on the Eastside Trail this weekend? Stop at PCM, grab a bite to-go from one of the restaurants in the Food Hall, and enjoy a picnic on The Yard — which features marked hangout diamonds, so you can easily maintain a safe distance from other groups. How clever is this? (See photo below)
Stream the Hamilton movie from home
Beginning Friday, July 3rd, you can watch the original Broadway cast perform their iconic roles in Hamilton. And it’s just $6.99, for a one-month subscription of Disney Plus, which you can cancel at any time.
The film was shot over three days, during the original Broadway run — which means you can see the original cast starring in their iconic roles. It tells the story of Alexander Hamilton and other American founding fathers.

Explore the South Fulton Scenic Byway
Too hot to hike? Then get in the car, crank up the AC, and take a scenic drive — without going far from home. The South Fulton Scenic Byway has been called the loneliest road in metro Atlanta — and it is so gorgeous, you won’t believe you’re still in Fulton County. Remember to make a plan for safe and hygienic bathroom breaks!
