Forgot the whipped cream or cranberry sauce? If a last minute run to the store is in the cards for you, here’s a list of what’s open.
As always, you’ll want to quickly check with the location nearest you to make sure it’s not the outlier that doesn’t participate in holiday hours. Check the hours as well — some are open with limited hours.
Most of the stores we researched for this list did NOT include holiday hours on their websites, so you’ll have to call ahead to verify.
First of all, here are the chains you can cross right off your list, because they are CLOSED:
- Trader Joes
If you need one simple item, you might try a convenience store, like the little markets attached to many QT gas stations. Otherwise, give one of these a go. For your convenience, the links go to each chain’s store locator page.

Grocery stores open on Thanksgiving
These are listed roughly in order of how common they are throughout Atlanta and suburbs. They are not in alphabetic order.

Kroger stores will be open Thanksgiving Day, but hours will vary so check your location for details.
Most stores are open all day, and the Black Friday sales generally start at 6 p.m.
The chain has set standard hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Stores are open, but will maintain limited hours.
The website lists the hours each store will be open for the holiday, but you still may want to call ahead to verify.
We clicked on 4 local stores (2 ITP and 2 OTP) and each had hours listed as 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If you live in a zip code where grocery delivery is available to Amazon Prime Members, you can order through the website on Thanksgiving Day, up to 2 p.m.
Locations in Doraville, Duluth, Johns Creek, Riverdale, and Suwanee.
The Korean chain is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
Buford Highway Farmer’s Market
We shot them a note on social media and they said they are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
The national grocery delivery service will be delivering orders from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Atlanta.
According to the chain’s Holiday FAQ webpage, all locations are open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Make a mental note now that they are closed on Christmas Day.
Open until 5 p.m.
Several sources say all stores are open regular hours on Thanksgiving.
Two locations on the South side say they are maintaining their 24-hour schedule over the holiday.
