Thanksgiving 2020 is destined to be a different kind of holiday. Please be safe this holiday season!
The CDC has issued guidelines on how to have safer holiday celebrations during the 2020 season.

If you chronically forget the whipped cream or cranberry sauce, or if you can’t resist a last minute run to the store, this list is for you!
As always, you’ll want to quickly check with the location nearest you to make sure it’s not the outlier that doesn’t participate in holiday hours.
First of all, here are the chains you can cross right off your list, because they are CLOSED for Thanksgiving 2020:
- Target issued a statement that they will be closed
- Walmart has also said they will remain closed
- Trader Joe’s
If you need one simple item, you might try a convenience store, like the little markets attached to many QT gas stations. Otherwise, give one of these a go. For your convenience, the links go to each chain’s store locator page.

Atlanta area grocery stores open on Thanksgiving
These are listed roughly in order of how common they are throughout Atlanta and suburbs. They are not in alphabetic order.

Kroger stores will be open Thanksgiving Day, but hours will vary so check your location for details.
The chain has set standard hours from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in 2020.
Stores are open, but will maintain limited hours in 2020.
The website lists the hours each store will be open for the holiday, but you still may want to call ahead to verify.
Last year, we clicked on 4 local stores (2 ITP and 2 OTP) and each had hours listed as 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Also, in 2019 you could order through Amazon Prime on Thanksgiving Day till 2 p.m.
We haven’t verified this for 2020, so don’t count on it.
Locations in Doraville, Duluth, Johns Creek, Riverdale, and Suwanee.
In 2019, the Korean chain was open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
In 2019, we shot them a note via social media and they said they were open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
We will update for 2020 if new info becomes available.
In 2019, the national grocery delivery service was delivering orders from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Atlanta.
According to the chain’s Holiday FAQ webpage, all locations are open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Make a mental note now that they are closed on Christmas Day.
Most stores open regular hours.
Most stores will be open. Call your preferred location before heading out.
In 2019, two locations on the South side said they were maintaining their 24-hour schedule over the holiday.
We expect shorter hours in 2020, and we’ll update when we know for sure.
