Get the kids outside and exploring nature, with these events that celebrate Kids to Parks Day — which lands on Saturday, May 16, 2026 this year.
Kids to Parks Day is national day of outdoor play that is observed annually on the third Saturday of May.
The goal is to connect kids and families with their local, state, and national parks and public lands. Through thousands of park events nationwide, Kids to Parks Day promotes discovery and exploration in the great outdoors.
Whether you live within the Atlanta city limits or one of the far-flung suburbs, there is a park or green space near you.
So why not mark your calendar for May 16th, Kids to Parks Day, and have a fun outing with your family? You can plan your own excursion, or take advantage of one of the local events below.

Three great nature walks with kids
These are just a few of our favorite nature trails at Atlanta-area parks — but we’re sure there’s a green space near you! Don’t forget to pack water, snacks, and sunscreen.
♦ Mary Scott Nature Park
The kids will love walking along this easy looped trail through the woods — with a chance to explore the ruins of an old homestead as well.
♦ Murphey Candler Park
Watch the ducks on the lake and walk on the nature trail, then enjoy a picnic meal at the pavilion and playground.
♦ Peachtree Creek Greenway
This paved trail is perfect for strollers and for family bike rides.
