National Night Out is a series of community-building events that traditionally take place on the first Tuesday in August. This year, that is Tuesday, August 6th.
But some communities choose to hold their National Night Out events on the weekend, rather than on a Tuesday — so you’ll start seeing events as early as August 1st.
National Night Out started in 1984, and now takes place in 16,000 communities across the nation. The goal is to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement.
At National Night Out events, you’ll often find free food, games, live music, bounce houses, and more. Often, you’ll get to explore public safety vehicles and meet K9 police dogs.
Each event is a little different. But at all of them you will get a chance to meet your local law enforcement officers and neighbors.
If you don’t see a nearby event on this list, we encourage you to do some research on your own, to find out if your neighborhood or town/suburb is hosting a National Night Out.
Some places to check: the Next Door app, your city/county website or newsletter, community Facebook pages, call city hall, or ask your savvy neighbors.
