NOTE: If you missed most of NBC’s televised run of Jesus Christ Superstar last Sunday because of the constant storm updates, you can watch again anytime — for a limited time — by streaming it. Just get the NBC app for your smart TV or any streaming device, open it, and search for the show by name. It will probably be right there on the home screen for a few more days.

You have a few different options for watching Jesus Christ Superstar on Easter weekend 2020!
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s groundbreaking rock opera traces the last seven days of Christ’s life, as seen through the eyes of a very jealous Judas Iscariot. It brings contemporary themes into the plot, and allows you to see Jesus as a human being like yourself — someone who has to face the trials and disappointments of being human.
And of course, there’s the awesome music.
Here are two ways to watch two different versions this Easter weekend.
Watch an encore performance on NBC, starring John Legend
NBC will bring back its Emmy-winning production of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.
This is an Editor’s Pick here at Atlanta On The Cheap — if you haven’t seen this version, you should put it on your calendar.
The show will air at 7 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 12th, on the NBC network.
This spectacular production originally aired live on NBC back in 2018 on Easter Sunday.
The cast is amazing, and we love how diverse and inclusive it is, almost in the spirit of Hamilton.
- John Legend as Jesus Christ
- Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene
- Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas
- Alice Cooper as King Herod
- Ben Daniels as Pontius Pilate
- Norm Lewis as Caiaphas
- Jin Ha as Annas
- Jason Tam as Peter
- Erik Gronwall as Simon

Stream a British version on YouTube
Andrew Lloyd Webber is helping the social-distancing effort by releasing one of his musicals for FREE streaming every Friday. They run on his new YouTube channel, called The Shows Must Go On!
Each feature-length show will become available for streaming on YouTube at 2 p.m. on Friday and remain accessible—free of charge—for the next 48 hours.
Of course, the Good Friday release was Jesus Christ Superstar.
This means you have from now until 2 p.m. on Easter Sunday to stream this version, which is a 2012 adaptation starring Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm as Mary Magdalene and Ben Forster as Jesus. It’s a video capture of a British touring concert production.
