The Cake is a new play by Bekah Brunstetter, the writer of the current TV hit This Is Us. It opens on Friday, May 17th at the Horizon Theatre in Inman Park (just down the street from the Little Five Points business district). The show runs through June 23, 2019.
The play is about a North Carolina baker, Della, who is asked to bake a wedding cake for her best friend’s daughter. When she learns this is a union between two women, she struggles to reconcile her own traditional values with this modern-day scenario of true love and commitment. The playwright has portrayed Della’s internal conflict with wit and humor.
Performances are Wednesday through Sunday:
- Wednesday–Friday at 8 p.m.
- Saturday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
- Sunday at 5 p.m.
For this show, there is an added matinee on Thursday, June 20th at 11 a.m.
As with all theatres, ticket prices can fluctuate with demand, so buy early!

The Goldstar deal
If you buy through Goldstar, you can get weeknight tickets at half price — that’s just $15 for Wednesday and Thursday night performances (plus a service fee of up to $5)
Goldstar is also offering a few weekend tickets for $17.50. It tends to release more weekend tickets closer to the actual date, based on availability — so it’s worth checking if you’re planning your weekend last minute. These discounts typically only show up for the upcoming weekend, not for dates farther in advance.
The Groupon deal
If you buy through Groupon, you can get weeknight tickets for $19.75 and weekend tickets for $22.50. Groupon doesn’t add service fees to its sales, so this deal is essentially the same price as the Goldstar deal, when you consider the final cost.
