Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios: A Cabinet of Curiosities will be at the Grand Chapiteau at Atlantic Station through May 8, 2016.
Cirque du Soleil’s productions never cease to amaze me–the gorgeous costuming and choreography make each show feel like a work of art, and I remain in awe of the complex circus arts the performers manage to pull off night after night. Kurios: A Cabinet of Curiosities gets bonus points, as it has a steampunk vibe: “Step into the Grand Chapiteau at Atlantic Station and find yourself in the curio cabinet of an ambitious inventor who defies the laws of time, space and dimension in order to reinvent everything around him. Suddenly, the visible becomes invisible, perspectives are transformed, and the world is literally turned upside down in a place that’s as beautiful as it is mysterious.”
We saw the show last month, and it was a fun afternoon out. The costuming & set design made familiar moves feel new, from the contortionists’ fluid movements as electric eels to the chair stacker’s floor-to-ceiling & ceiling-to-floor tricks. And the clown scenes were among my favorites to date, especially the cat sequence.
