The remainder of this post has not been updated for 2020, and may not be accurate. Please check back.
It takes place from noon to 6 p.m., at the Cultured South headquarters, located in the Lee + White development along the Beltline’s West Side Trail. The event is FREE, but you need a complimentary ticket from Eventbrite in order to attend. The festival is family-friendly, with live music and food vendors onsite.
The Fermentation Festival was created two years ago to help grow awareness about fermentation, and to educate the community about the history and health benefits of traditional fermented foods. The festival is a hands-on day of learning and sharing this information with the community in a fun and way.
Festival goers can sample and purchase fermented products from two dozen local and regional producers, attend educational talks and demonstrations, and enjoy seasonal kombucha on. There will also be a “libation lounge” curated by the Dames and Dregs Beer Festival.
The list of common fermented foods includes sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, kefir, kombucha, tempeh, yogurt, beer, and some types of cheese. The fermentation process was used by our ancestors as a way to make fresh food and milk last much longer. Fermented foods are believed to boost overall health by providing a beneficial dose of probiotic bacteria.
Cultured South is Georgia’s first kombucha taproom & fermentation marketplace. It is located at 1038 White St. SW, in Atlanta’s West End.
