About these events…
Dekalb County began hosting these food distribution events in May of 2020, during the early days of the pandemic, using funds from the federal American Rescue Plan.
The events are held on a irregular basis and are not announced until just a few days ahead of time, making it hard to predict when the next one will be. Dekalb County has never released an annual schedule for its food distributions.
What we do know is that they often take place around the middle of the month (but not every month) and are always held on Saturday mornings.
In general, we see the food distributions happening without fail in August (along with free book bags), and in November and December before the holidays. We’ve also seen them timed to correspond to MLK Day, Mother’s Day, and Easter (when a dozen eggs are typically included).
In 2023, the months that Dekalb County did not have food distribution events were April, July, and October.

Dekalb County’s Easter 2024 food distribution
Dekalb County has released the details for its March food distribution event.
On Saturday, March 30, 2024, Dekalb County will distribute 5,000 boxes of food — including fruits, vegetables, and chicken parts.
The giveaway will also include a box of Girl Scout Cookies for each family.
In past years, the Easter food giveaway has also included a dozen eggs. This may be the case again this year.
There are EIGHT separate food distribution events, held in church parking lots around the county, plus a new location at Plaza Fiesta.
The events are open to Dekalb County residents only.
You may be asked for proof of residency, so bring an ID or utility bill.
All events begin at 9 a.m., rain or shine, and will continue on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies are gone.
They are designed to be drive-thru events.
