Come to historic Oakland Cemetery for its Day of the Dead Festival. Known in Spanish as Dia de los Muertos, the annual holiday honors the lives of family members who have passed away.
The celebration at Oakland takes place on Sunday, November 2, 2025, from noon to 5 p.m.
It is FREE to attend and very family-friendly.

Both Oakland parking lots will be closed to the public during the event.
If you can’t walk, you’ll need to take Uber, Lyft, MARTA, or carpool.
King Memorial MARTA station is just a short walk from Oakland.
And you can walk to Oakland on the BeltLine Eastside Trail if you live nearby.
About the venue
Historic Oakland Cemetery is Atlanta’s oldest public park, and the final resting place for many notable citizens — including author Margaret Mitchell, former Atlanta mayors Maynard Jackson and Ivan Allen, sports legend Bobby Jones, and Civil War soldiers.
Less than a mile from downtown Atlanta, Oakland’s 48 acres are a treasure trove of history, gardens, sculpture, architecture, and ancient oaks and magnolias.
Oakland Cemetery is home to over 1400 trees, some of them nearly 200 years old. Many reflect Victorian symbolism, including those with a “weeping” form or tall columnar shape that points toward heaven.
Symbolism was important in Victorian times. Clasped hands are often seen on grave stones from that era; the symbol reflects the eternal unity of love.
