If you found yourself suddenly without cellular service because of the widespread Verizon outage this week, you’re entitled to a one-time $20 credit on your account.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Verizon issued this statement:
“Yesterday, we did not meet the standard of excellence you expect and that we expect of ourselves. To help provide some relief to those affected, we will give you a $20 account credit that can be easily redeemed by logging into the myVerizon app.
You will receive a text message when the credit is available. On average, this covers multiple days of service. Business customers will be contacted directly about their credits.
This credit isn’t meant to make up for what happened. No credit really can. But it’s a way of acknowledging your time and showing that this matters to us.
If you’re still having trouble connecting, please restart your device (power down and power back on). This is the fastest way to reconnect your phone to the network.
We are sorry for what you experienced and will continue to work hard day and night to provide the outstanding network and service that you expect from Verizon.”
So what are your next steps?
Here’s how to get the credit
First of all, you’ll only get ONE $20 credit on your account, regardless of how many lines you have bundled into it.
This is disappointing for people on a family plan, who may have had 4 people or more affected by the outage. But, that’s just how it is.
The credit is also not prorated for those who were without service for more than one day.
Many customers found service restored within an 8-10 hour window.
You may have already received a text message from Verizon about your $20 credit.
If so, just tap on the link provided and then tap the Take Action button.
If you haven’t yet received the text, you can log in to your Verizon account online or through the MyVerizon mobile app. You may be able to see the credit there,
If so, you’re all set and there’s nothing left to do.
But if you don’t see the credit on your account, and were left without cellular service during the outage, you should call customer service.
The credit is only being offered to those who lost service, and not to all Verizon customers. It’s possible that some affected accounts were not credited, and you can correct this through customer service.
