For the fourth year, Ibotta is again offering its “Free Thanksgiving Dinner” program in an effort to feed millions of families this Thanksgiving.
The Thanksgiving FREE offer is available to new and existing Ibotta users starting November 1, 2023. The offer runs through November 23rd, while supplies last.
It’s a little bit of a complicated offer, but it’s worth it to get your Thanksgiving turkey and fixings for free. NOTE that this is a rebate offer — so you must be able to pay for your food upfront and wait for the refund.
In case you don’t know, Ibotta is a cash-back grocery shopping program — it is similar to Rakuten (formerly eBates) in some ways.
How to get 100% cash back on Thanksgiving dinner with Ibotta
This is how the offer works:
Ibotta is giving you cash back on the essential items you need to make a turkey dinner for the family.
Below is a simplified list of steps to redeem the offer, but you can also review the 2023 details here.
Step One
The first thing you’ll do is sign up for an Ibotta account, if you don’t already have one. Register here.
Step Two
Next, sign into the app or browser extension and look for the FREE Thanksgiving offers.
The following items are available for 100% cash back.
TIP: Always scan the barcode in-store via the Ibotta app to ensure you’re purchasing the correct qualifying item.
- *Any brand turkey roast (3-lb. or larger) — up to $14.35 cash back
- Idahoan Potatoes (4-oz.) — up to $1.60 cash back
- Jiffy corn muffin mix (8.5-oz.) — up to 75 cents cash back
- McCormick gravy mix (.87-oz.) — up to $1.15 cash back
- Ocean Spray cranberry sauce (14-oz.) — up to $2.65 cash back
*The offer is valid on a turkey roast for select brands (3-lb. or larger), including whole turkey, turkey breast and more. Participating brands include the following: Butterball, Honest Turkey, Honeysuckle, Jennie-O, and Great Value.
Double-check participation by scanning the turkey’s barcode via the Ibotta app. Also, if you purchase a larger or more expensive turkey, you will receive the maximum rebate amount of $14.35. (The rest you’re paying out-of-pocket.)
Step Three
Follow the instructions to add all (or as many as you want) of the offers to your account.
Step Four
Shop in-store with the Ibotta app and be sure to get a receipt (or link your grocery account online with Ibotta)
NOTE: Linking your account may take a little time, and you have to follow specific rules for redeeming offers bought online, so be sure to read the Ibotta instructions ahead of time.

Offer details that are new for 2023
This is the 4th year of Ibotta’s Thanksgiving offer, and things have changed a bit.
Which grocery stores to use:
This year, most major retailers are participating. However, check the app for a full list of participating grocery stores and other retailers in your area.
Different details for new and existing Ibotta users:
For some reason, the promotion works differently depending on if you’re just signing up for Ibotta or if you’re already using the app. New members access all of the offers immediately upon sign-up. Existing users have to “earn” the Thanksgiving offers by redeeming other offers first. The number of offers required to unlock the deal varies by user. (Yes, this is complicated.)
Offer details specific to new Ibotta users:
New Ibotta members will have access to 100% cash back offers for a turkey and sides at sign-up.
Redemption steps for existing Ibotta users:
Existing members will need to unlock the two offers — Turkey Bonus and Sides Bonus. Complete the bonus by redeeming the required number of offers, which will unlock the chosen offer. (You can only choose one bonus at time.)
Repeat the process by redeeming the next set of required offers to unlock the second Thanksgiving bonus.
The number of required offers to unlock each bonus varies by member.
Important notes about the Ibotta FREE Thanksgiving dinner offer
♦ Remember, the FREE Thanksgiving offer is while supplies last, so you don’t want to sleep on this deal.
♦ The Ibotta app works by giving you cash back after you pay for your items, so you will need to be prepared to pay for them up front. However, since you’re getting 100% cash back on the items, it is essentially a FREE Thanksgiving dinner. (Also, you can only withdraw your cash back savings from Ibotta when your balance reaches $20 or more.)
♦ In every case, check the offer details and scan the barcode in-store to make sure the item you’re buying qualifies for the rebate. In some cases there may be variations on an item with similar packaging, but a different barcode.
♦ There is a limit of one rebate per product. If you buy more than one of a product or you get a larger turkey, you won’t get the 100% cash back on the additional product or extra cost. You can get up to $14 back on a turkey.
