I want to see this exhibition: Through January 8, 2017, “On You: Wearing Technology” will be on view. Per the description, “Wearable technology and head-mounted displays are in the press daily. Why now? While the basic technology has existed for decades, only recently have these devices become practical and desirable. On You: Wearing Technology looks at the challenges along the road to making a consumer wearable computer: power and heat, networking, mobile input, and display through examples of consumer, professional, and ‘maker’ devices. The exhibition also includes personal stories of individuals who use or create wearable technology. Are you wearing technology? Is technology on you?”

And through January 8, 2017, “Beautiful Users: Designing for People” will be on view. Per the description, “Beautiful Users: Designing for People, organized by the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, features nearly 100 objects that illustrate the evolution of ‘user-centered design’—from the mid–20th-century work of Henry Dreyfuss (who coined the phrase ‘designing for people’) to the complex systems and services that today’s designers are developing.” The exhibition features examples of the human-scale measurement system; objects designed for comfort and function, ranging from Dreyfuss’s Princess telephone to Amos Winter’s Leveraged Freedom wheelchair); Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s Roomba Cam, which repurposes the household gadget for surveillance purposes; & more.
