You have two more opportunities to check out opera on the cheap in the next couple of months: Discount tickets are available for Atlanta Opera’s La Traviata and The Italian Girl in Algiers.
From March 2-10, 2013, you can see Atlanta Opera’s production of La Traviata. Not familiar with the work? Per the summary: “Based on La dame aux Camélias (1852), a play adapted from a novel by Alexandre Dumas, Verdi’s La traviata tells the story of Violetta, a worldly courtesan who is forced to give up the love of her life in this tale of lavish revelry, family strife, unfortunate misunderstanding and selfless sacrifice. La traviata is a treasured classic overflowing with memorable music. Both longtime opera lovers and first-timers will be touched by this romantic tragedy.” La Traviata is sung in Italian with English supertitles.
And from April 27-March 5, 2013, you can see Atlanta Opera’s production of The Italian Girl in Algiers. Not familiar with the work? Per the summary: “In this whimsical, madcap adventure set in a 1930′s pop-up book, Isabella is captured by an Algerian ruler who dreams of adding an Italian wife to his harem. Once imprisoned, Isabella turns the tables and rescues the man of her dreams. With more belly laughs than any opera should reasonably permit, Rossini’s The Italian Girl in Algiers will charm your socks off.” The Italian Girl in Algiers is sung in Italian with English supertitles.
