Movies Starting at $0.75 per Ticket: The Picture Show at Merchants Exchange

Posted By ATLCheap on January 2, 2010

Today, I had one of those bad parenting moments: It’s cold, so I thought it’d be a perfect day to take the kids to the dollar theatre for a movie. And since The Picture Show at Merchants Exchange is near the Trader Joe’s in East Cobb, I figured I could stock up on staples while we were there.

So. I checked the schedule & saw three kid-friendly movies: G-Force, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, & The Fantastic Mr. Fox. The kids & I watched the trailers online, & then they voted for G-Force. We piled into the car, drove 20 minutes to the theatre, & got out to buy tickets. It was then that I remembered that they only take cash. And I had none. Making it worse, I didn’t have my ATM card, and the bank closed literally one minute before we pulled into the parking lot. They were disappointed but remarkably understanding. We settled for eating lunch in the living room while watching Shrek 3 (rented for $0.99 at Blockbuster).

Now for the deal:

I call The Picture Show at Merchants Exchange a dollar theatre, and it is, more or less. On Tuesdays, it’s a little less with $0.75 tickets for all shows. The rest of the week, it’s a little more: Tickets are $1.25 each before 6:00 p.m. & $1.75 after 6:00 p.m.

I think we’ll head back tomorrow for a movie. I’m debating about adding in the Movie Meal Deal to make up for today’s adventure—they love getting popcorn, and I hate paying for it. It’s $4.25 for a small drink, kid-size popcorn, & fun-size candy.

The Picture Show at Merchants Exchange is located at 4400 Roswell Rd, Marietta. 770-977-2977

We love the Picture Show and go there all the time! It’s clean, attractive, and drinks and popcorn are cheap. We usually go before 6 PM.

  2. Getting cash in a pinch – Publix/Kroger will let you get cash over the amount of your purchase.
So if you somehow end up in this bind again, get a pack of gum for the movies and get $10 over the amount of purchase using your credit card. There is no extra credit card fee either.

For those of us on the Southside of Atlanta, there is a movie theater in Fayetteville called Cinemark. It’s located behind the Chick-Fil-A. They offer $.75 movies on Mondays and the most is $1.75 after 6 p.m. on Friday & Saturday night. Tuesdays are all day at $1.00 and other times are $1.25. You can read about it on their site: http://www.cinemark.com/theater_showtimes.asp?theater_id=121

Glad to know there is another “cheap” movie around town. :)
