Through Dec. 14: 80% off Restaurant.com Gift Certificates, Gift Cards & Dinner of The Month Club Orders

Posted By ATLCheap on December 10, 2009

Through December 14, Restaurant.com’s cheap discount certificates get even cheaper: you can take 80% off Restaurant.com gift certificate orders by using promo code “SHARE”. What does that mean for you? A $25 gift certificate regularly sells for $10. After the discount, you can get the $25 gift certificate for just $2, the $50 certificate for $4, the $75 certificate for $6 and the $100 certificate for $8.

The “SHARE” promo code works for other deals, too: You can use it to slash 80% off the cost of buying Restaurant.com gift cards or Dinner of the Month club orders, too.

Unlike traditional Restaurant.com purchases, these gift certificates, gift cards, & Dinner of the Month club offers are meant to be used as gifts. They’re not valid at the restaurants themselves, but the recipient can redeem them to buy discount certificates on Restaurant.com. If you’re a frequent Restaurant.com shopper, you may want to take advantage of the deal for yourself. You can save 80% on the gift certificate & then wait for one of the 80% off sales for certificates at local restaurants to roll around before you place your order. Update: That part may not work. I hadn’t bought one yet, but Jamie just did  & tried to redeem it–there doesn’t appear to be an option to use a discount code when you use a Restaurant.com gift certificate/card (see the comments). That said, it’s like having an 80% off sale whenever you want it, so it may still be worth it.

As for the restaurant certificates themselves, you’ll find a variety of deals on Restaurant.com: $25 certificates for $10, $10 certificates for $3, and more. All of the vendors apply their own restrictions to each certificate’s redemption, so read the fine print before you check out to make sure it’ll be a good deal for you.

FYI–I’ve linked you directly to the deal using my Affiliate link. Translation: I get credit for telling you about the deal, and they may choose to send a few cents my way to say, “Thanks for the referral.” I tell you this because a) My site’s rules require it. b) The FTC requires it.

I like to get paid for the work that I do re: tracking down deals, so if you plan to take advantage of the deal & feel like sending a little love my way, please use the link. Otherwise, go to Restaurant.com.

I don’t understand. So you’re paying $2 for a $25 gift certificate to spend on restaurant.com? Does that mean you can then use the $25 gift certificate to buy a $50 gift certificate to a restaurant?

I want to buy one, but I’m so confused! I don’t think it’s your fault—it just sounds like an elaborate concept to me.

I agree that it is confusing–so do they! They have a glossary on their site:

Restaurant Gift Certificates – restaurant specific certificates that are printed and then redeemed at the restaurant.

Restaurant.com Gift Certificates – site credit that entitles the holder to redeem it’s face value for an equivalent amount of Restaurant Gift Certificates (see above).

Restaurant.com Gift Cards – a wallet sized, physical gift card that can be given to friends and family that entitles the holder to redeem it’s face value for an equivalent amount of Restaurant Gift Certificates (see above).

In answer to your question–you’d be buying the Restaurant.com Gift Certificate or the Restaurant.com Gift Card. You can then use those to buy the specific restaurant gift certificates. You should be able to take advantage of a discount on both ends, first when buying the Restaurant.com Gift Certificate & then later when you use the Restaurant.com Gift Certificate to buy the individual restaurant certificates during one of their other sales.

While restaurant.com is an awesome website for local restaurants, the double deal doesn’t seem to work out like we all thought it would. I just tried it, and unless I missed something there is no place to apply the 80% discount when redeeming the restaurant.com certificate for a restaurant certificate. Plus, to use the restaurant.com certificate you have to go to a different website. The restaurant certificates end up being $25 instead of $10.

For example, I purchased a $50 restaurant.com certificate for $20 at 80% off, so I ended up paying $4 for it. Then I went to buy two restaurant certificates, which I thought would only use $4 of my $50 gift card. However, on the restaurant.com redemption page, each certificate was $25, so it used up my entire $50. I ended up getting both certificates for $4 but have nothing left on the restaurant.com certificate.

The one advantage I did find was if you were going to purchase $25 certificates that were only marked down to $15 vs $10, then 80% off these would make them $3 a piece. If you bought two it would cost $6; however, if you bought a $50 restaurant.com certificate with the 80% off deal then you would be able to buy those certificates for $4.

It’s not that much of a savings and most $25 certificates are normally $10 anyway, so in that case, it would just come out even. Basically, buying the restaurant.com certificate for yourself isn’t worth it. Just buy the certificates with the discounts directly on the site.

If I am wrong and anyone was able to use the restaurant.com certificate to purchase a restaurant certificate with the 80% off, let me know! That would be amazing, but I am pretty sure we aren’t going to be able to pull one over on restaurant.com!
