Popeyes—Free Cajun Turkey on Saturday, Nov. 21

Posted By admin on November 18, 2009

Whenever I read the word Popeyes, the old “love that chicken from Popeyes” jingle runs through my head. I wonder if their turkey is good, too. Want to find out for free? Take advantage of this deal that my Popeyes press contact just emailed me:

On Saturday, November 21, the first person to mention Atlanta on the Cheap at participating Popeyes will receive a free Cajun turkey valued at $39.99. Click here to find a participating Popeyes location near you—she sent me to the website for a list of participating locations, so it should be all of them listing on that locations page.

A quick favor: If you take advantage of this deal & you snag a free turkey, please post a comment in this thread to let everyone know which location you visited so that they can head elsewhere for one. Thanks!

Oh, and if the person at Popeyes looks at you like you’re speaking Greek when you try & use the deal, please leave the manager your name & contact info & send me an email at jm@atlantaonthecheap.com. 99% of the time everyone’s on the same page, but there’s always a chance that there’s a last-minute staffing change on the day of that causes a bit of confusion.

  2. James says:

As someone who has previously purchased their cajun turkey for Thanksgiving for my visiting family, I can confirm that their turkey is quite good.

  3. admin says:

I think this is a company that owns quite a few Popeyes & a couple of Krispy Kreme locations in the metro-Atlanta area. They just list both on their locations page. ~Jenn

I am definitely going to try this! This website is awesome. To the Admin(s), keep the great deals coming!!!

  5. admin says:

Good luck! If you snag a turkey, let us know the location so that we can try others. Thanks! ~Jenn

  6. Spence says:

I called one of the locations and the manger kept saying the first customer in line with a “number from the website” will get the turkey. what is this “number” they are asking for? Sounds like an awesome deal, though!

  7. admin says:

Will check with my contact re: a number…that’s a new-to-me request. You should just be able to mention the site. Will follow up in a bit…

  8. the associate at the popeyes on metropolitan was not nice she laughed at me as if i were ignorant. she refused to give me the number to another popeyes.another employee had to stop what she was doing to get the number for me an unpleasant experience.

  9. Marshia says:

I had no luck at my Popeyes, the manager was not aware of this freebie. Was anyone else successful? Good luck everyone

  10. Jennifer W. says:

Hubby scored the free one on Cobb Pkwy in Marietta!!

  11. Redan Road has been snagged by the person in front of me. And to think I would have been first if I didn’t wander around for ten minutes before showing up. Foiled by my own stupidity, I tell you.

I just sent this as an e-mail, but I wanted to also post it here:

I arrived at the Fayetteville store at 9:25. There was no one else there when I arrived. I went to the window and talked to two staff members, showed them the prinout from your web site and declared that I was the first to arrive and I would sit in the car until they got ready to open the doors.

About fifteen minutes later, a young woman arrived and parked next to me. She sat in her van until another car pulled up. When the woman exited the second car, they spoke to each other, and the second woman (wearing a Popeye’s uniform) went inside. The young woman stood outside the door until it was unlocked.

When we got to the counter, I said to the two staff members, “I was here at 9:25 right?” They said, “We tried to tell her, but …” indicating the manager.

I told the manager that I watched the other girl wait for her to arrive and saw them talking to each other. She basically, said “too bad. It’s the first person in the door.”

This was an obvious set-up and it was wrong!

I hope someone speaks to this manager about her unscrupulous business practices.

WE GOT THE ONE ON HWY. 138 IN CONYERS…. THE STAFF WAS GREAT! HAD TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH THE TURKEY WHICH I WASN’T PREPARED FOR BUT EVERYTHING ELSE WAS GREAT.

  14. Christy says:

I called Candler Road and someone had already snagged that one. I’m going to keep checking. Thanks, Jen! Great deal!

  15. Jon Williams says:

I got mine at the 2108 store on 515 Lee Street. Tremendous DEAL! Thanks Jen, you are doing a thankless job!

  16. admin says:

Sorry to hear that a few of you are having troubles. If you sent me an email, I’ve forwarded it to my contact at Popeyes. Glad to hear that a bunch of you had no issues though…enjoy!

  17. C says:

Called store 8805 on Wesley Chapel and he said that anyone who mentioned the deal today could get 10% off the turkey TODAY only at his store only (as he could not speak for other stores).

  18. timmy says:

I went to the location in East Point on Camp Creek Parkway and, I have to say, the manager and staff were extremely pleasant to deal with and very nice. I arrived at 8:25 am and just waited at the door. The manager came out and greeted me, even though they were not open yet. I waited until 10:00 am when they opened. She asked what the “phrase” was. I gave it to her…They congratulated me, were all smiles and friendly, took some photos of me holding the turkey. I left there feeling really great, not just because of the win, but also because of how I was treated. I’m going to definitely tell Popeye’s Corporate office. They deserve a compliment!

  20. Ms. Rutker says:

I was the one that got the turkey at Fayetteville location. I recieved a call from the Area Manager to congratulate me on winning. I was the one that stood at the door for thirty minutes waiting in the spirit of competition and didnt do anything wrong to win. All I can say is try again next year. The staff was friendly and nice to me.

Sorry for taking so long to post this but I was out today doing a benefit for a friend with cancer and just got home. I arrived at the location on 278 in Covington at 9:50. I went to the door at 9:55 and waited until the door was unlocked. I was the only customer at the store at opening. I ordered a chicken biscuit and mentioned Atlanta on the Cheap to the associate but she did not know what I was talking about. I showed her my printout from AOTC and she said I needed to wait for the manager to come back to speak with her. While I was waiting for my order the general manager called the store and the store associate asked them about the free turkery, He told her that I should wait for the manager to return to fill out a form to receive the turkey. The manager returned and originaly said that I needed to say a phrase that was posted on Twitter. I showed my printout and she called her GM to ask about the correct phrase. The GM stated that I said the correct phrase and to go ahead and give the turkery to me. I got my turkey and had my picture made with it and with the store manager. Even though there was a bit of mis-communication, my experience with this Popeye’s was a pleasant one and everyone at the store was friendly! Thanks for letting us know about this Jennifer!

I went to the Riverdale location (Hwy 85), about 9:45 am this morning, and was able to be the first one in and mention Atlanta on the Cheap. An employee videotaped me walking in. There was some confusion because some of the associates thought I was supposed to say a twitter phrase, but I held my ground :) , and a manager confirmed that I was correct. The staff was very polite and professional; Atlanta on the Cheap — you guys awesome!!! The only thing is, I was so excited I left without asking about preparation/cooking time–any ideas?

  23. Marvin says:

Went to the Redan Rd., Wesley Chapel, and Hwy 78 location ALL before opening, and all had someone waiting in line, so I just placed an order for one at the Hwy 78 location. Wish I had known Wesley Chapel was giving 10% off. Kind of glad I didn’t win as I wouldn’t have had anywhere to store the turkey until Thursday. Congratulations to all that won!!

  24. Michael says:

I had an interesting experience at the Popeye’s on Stone Mountain Hwy (78) yesterday. I arrived about 8:50am and the parking lot was full of cars and people were sitting inside. I went to the door, found it locked and discovered they were having a staff meeting. They saw me and said “we open at 10″. I said OK and waited by the door first in line.

Shortly after, another gentleman walked up and I told him I was there for the AOTC deal. He said he was there for the same and would wait too. A couple of others showed up and left looking for the AOTC deal.

At 10am they opened the doors and I walked in first toward the counter. The guy behind me started shouting ATLANTA ON THE CHEAP. By that time I was at the cashier and and told him I was there for the AOTC deal. This other guy (turkey) started talking very loudly that he should get the free turkey because he was the first to say it.

The staff didn’t know what to do and initially agreed with him (of all things). After several minutes of intense “discussion” and calls to a vice president of the company, they gave us both free turkeys. As he walked out, I told him “congratulations, you’re scheme worked”.

    What a day.

  25. April says:

It worked! My mom got a free turkey this morning at the Candler Road location. There was nobody else there at all so she didn’t have to compete with other turkey hounds :-) They said that they will give away turkeys until Wednesday. I suggest trying this location since it is off the beaten path. The employees weren’t that friendly, but at least she got her turkey!

  26. Tiya says:

Thank you so much for the info AOTC I snagged the turkey on metropolitan.
However, I almost didn’t get the turkey. When I got there were 2 other people there but, because I had been to 2 other locations to no avail by the time I got to this one it was open already and I saw a group of people standing at the counter with a piece of paper in their hands. Long story short they were trying to figure the phrase out which evidently wasn’t the phrase that was on all of our sheets lol. By default I wound up getting it after a few other defaulted blurts out from others I put it all together and said it out loud and BINGO she pointed to me like she got it!!! So needless to say I was thoroughly excited but also frustrated because I came within a close hair of not getting it because evidently you had to say you received a tweet to get the free turkey? All in all I am very thankful and it made for an exciting and fun memory that I will never forget lol Thanks again
