39th Annual Atlanta Pride Festival at Piedmont Park, Oct. 31 & Nov. 1

Posted By admin on October 29, 2009

This weekend, October 31 & November 1, the 39th Annual Atlanta Pride Festival will take place at Piedmont Park. The event’s organizers couldn’t have picked a better weekend for it, especially for people-watching. Not to be stereotypical, but my gay friends do Halloween right—they pull together some of the most amazing costumes each year, while I, on the other hand, struggle to find an orange shirt. If even a fraction of the crowd decides to give their costumes a bit of extra wear this weekend, it’d be awesome.

The Atlanta Pride Festival is part parade, part festival. There’ll actually be several parades during the weekend:

  • Saturday, October 31, at 1:30 p.m.: 2009 Trans March
  • Saturday, October 31, at 6:00 p.m.: 2009 Dyke March
  • Sunday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m.: 2009 Atlanta Pride Parade

The festival part sounds like fun, too. Free concert fans will appreciate two stages of live music, featuring artists such as American Idol alum Blake Lewis, Goddess & She, Eric Himan & the Adams, Sonia Leigh, Doubting Thomas, Josh Zuckerman, and Heidi Hensley, to name a few.

Plus, there’s a festival market with vendors galore, and there’ll be an Atlanta Pride Literary Showcase, too. The literary showcase will take place on Oct. 31 from 2:15 p.m.-4:30 p.m. on the Bud Light stage, and it includes performances & readings by Collin Kelley, Theresa Davis, Dustin Brookshire, and Jessica Hand.

Piedmont Park is located at 10th St. & Piedmont Ave. in midtown Atlanta.
