Jerry Siegel: Images from the Black Belt of the American South at Barbara Archer Gallery through Dec. 31, 2009

The title alone caught my eye for this photography exhibition: “Jerry Siegel: Images from the Black Belt of the American South” will be on display at Barbara Archer Gallery through Dec. 31, 2009. Unfortunately, I’ll have to settle for the title for the time being, as the website offers precious few details about the exhibition.I missed this the first time around—if you click on the image on the site, you’ll link to a full description of the exhibition & some thumbnails, too.
Browsing through the thumbnails makes me want to see it even more—Siegel has a good eye. I’ve lived in the south all my life, and I swear I used to drive by that same painted bus (and maybe even the dog) on my way to work. The shot of the “Would Jesus Steal Worms” sign cracks me up, but I think my favorite image so far is “Prophet Mary;” she looks like quite a character.
The reception is tonight, October 16, from 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m., and there will be food, compliments of Pure Taqueria in Inman Park. And tomorrow, October 17, there’ll be a gallery talk with the artist, Jerry Siegel.
Barbara Archer Gallery is located at 280 Elizabeth St., #A012, Atlanta.
