If you’re like me, you resist going to see movies at the theatre because it’s just too expensive. After all, if you can buy it for $15 when it’s released on DVD, why would you want to spend $32 to take a family of four to the matinee. It’s insane. Remember when the matinee was cheap? But I digress…

This summer, you can give your kids the movie-theatre experience without breaking the bank (or even spending a dime, for that matter). Take advantage of these deals:

1) $1 buys your admission ticket to popular kid’s movies during the AMC Summer Movie Camp. The shows start at 10:00 a.m., and they run every Wednesday from June 17-August 5. Here’s a look at the 2009 movie schedule:

  • June 17: Space Chimps
  • June 24: Kung Fu Panda
  • July 1: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
  • July 8: Tale of Despereaux
  • July 15: Horton Hears a Who
  • July 22: The Spiderwick Chronicles
  • July 29: Nim’s Island
  • August 5: Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Though it’s not free, your $1 goes to support a good cause: All admission and concession proceeds from the AMC Summer Movie Camp will benefit Variety: The Children’s Charity and the Will Rogers Institute. Speaking of concessions: If your kids munch while they watch, you can save on snacks, too. During the Summer Movie Camp, the AMC KidsPack (kid-size drink, popcorn & snack) is $3 (Reg. $5.75).

2) At participating Regal Theatres, movies are free during the nine week Free Family Film Festival. The kid movies start at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays & Wednesdays, and seats are available on a first-come, first served basis. There’s generally a G & a PG movie available each day, and though the schedule can vary, the majority of Regal Theatres in Georgia are offering the following selections (click here to double check the schedule):

  • June 2-3: Kit Kittredge: American Girl (G); Shrek The Third (PG)
  • June 9-10: The Tale Of Despereaux (G); Alvin And The Chipmunks (PG)
  • June 16-17: Charlotte’s Web (G); Surf’s Up (PG)
  • June 23-24: Horton Hears A Who (G); Journey To The Center Of The Earth (PG)
  • June 30-July 1: Space Chimps (G); Star Wars: Clone Wars (PG)
  • July 7-8: Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: Veggie Tale Movie (G); Spiderwick Chronicles (PG)
  • July 14-15: Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (G); Nim’s Island (PG)
  • July 21-22: Everyone’s Hero (G); Madagascar 2: Escape To Africa (PG)
  • July 28-29: Mr. Bean’s Holiday (G); Kung Fu Panda (PG)
