If you’re planning to watch the inauguration of president-elect Barack Obama & don’t want to sit home alone or sneak the live video feed at work, swing by one of these free viewing parties on Tuesday, January 20.
- Centennial Olympic Park will show the presidential inauguration on two large LED screens in the park. Gates open at 10 a.m., with the screening taking place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Get there early for a chance to win prizes from Q100. No pets, glass, alcohol, weapons, tents, or political signage allowed, and bags are subject to search. Take MARTA to avoid traffic; stops at the Civic Center, Peachtree Center, and CNN Center are within walking distance of the park.
- Add a historical context to the event by watching the inauguration ceremony in the theater at the Jimmy Carter Library. The ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m., and there’s no charge for theater-only admission. While you’re there, stop by the museum to tour an exact replica of the Oval Office and view other memorabilia. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for seniors ages 60 & up; students with IDs, members of the military, and kids 16 & under are free. The library and museum is located at 441 Freedom Parkway, Atlanta.
- Head to Morehouse College to watch the inauguration in Douglass Hall. The viewing party gets underway at 11:00 a.m. Morehouse College is located at 830 Westview Dr., SW, Atlanta.
