5 Festive & Free Ways to Spend the Weekend
Posted on | December 10, 2008 |
Looking for something fun, festive & free to do this weekend? Try one of these ideas:
- Stroll through Centennial Olympic Park & enjoy the 10th annual Holiday in Lights display. Through January 4, you’ll find thousands of lights on display throughout the Georgia World Congress Center Authority Campus, which includes the Georgia World Congress Center, the Georgia Dome, and Centennial Olympic Park itself.
- Head to downtown Kennesaw for its annual Our Hometown Christmas celebration on Saturday, December 13. The festivities get underway at noon with the Santa Parade, featuring everything from holiday characters and marching bands to Santa Claus and live reindeer. The parade will begin near the intersection of Park Drive and Main Street, proceed down Main Street past Cherokee Street, and then turn left on Sardis Street, finishing near Big Shanty Road and Cherokee Street. After the parade, stick around for stage entertainment, crafters, and more until 4 p.m.
- Bring Fido to Wills Park in Alpharetta for Pet Photos with Santa Claws. There’s a limit of one photo per family and you must show proof of up-to-date vaccinations before your pet can enter the photography area, but it makes for a sweet keepsake. Santa Claus will be available for photos with your pets from noon until 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 13. You’ll find the jolly old elf near Waggy World Paw Park in Wills Park.
- Swing by Clairmont Hills Baptist Church to see its 20th anniversary “drive through” living nativity. Though it’s cold outside, you’ll stay warm and cozy in your car as you drive by 12 scenes that tell the story of Jesus’ birth. The nativity is open on Friday, December 12, and Saturday, December 13, from 7:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 14, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Clairmont Hills Baptist Church is located at 1995 Clairmont Road, Decatur.
- Make wintertime ornaments at Lakeshore Learning Store during Crafts for Kids on Saturday, December 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Lakeshore Learning Store is located at 2757 Cobb Parkway, Atlanta.
